Laura Rowley-Howard

Laura is a highly experienced Speech and Language Therapist. She began working in education twenty years ago as a speech and language assistant whilst undertaking her degree in BA (Hons) Child and Youth Studies. Laura wanted to become a Speech and Language Therapist after her own son was diagnosed with a speech disorder. His difficulties and the remarkable progress he made due to intensive speech therapy whilst at school in a Specialist Resource Provision, prompted Laura to complete the postgraduate diploma in Speech and language Therapy and she graduated in 2010. Laura has worked as a qualified Speech and Language Therapist for over 12 years, working in the NHS and directly for educational settings including The Royal School for Deaf Children in Margate.

• Laura is registered with The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT),

• The Association of Speech and Language Therapists working in Independent Practice

• (ASLTIP) and The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Laura’s clinical areas of interest 

Laura has worked with children from pre-school through to secondary school age. She has experience working with young people who present with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs including speech sound disorders, stammers, developmental language disorder (DLD) and language disorders associated with hearing impairment and Autism.

Laura enjoys working closely with parents/carers, education and other health professionals to ensure the young person’s holistic needs are met. Laura is passionate about supporting young people to reach their communication potential and supporting families to feel empowered.

What Laura can offer

• Initial consultation

• Therapy approaches including Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Makaton.

• Attendance at EHCP reviews

• Conduct Speech and Language Therapy assessments and observations to inform therapy targets and diagnosis.
